Many people choose lubricant based on brand, packaging, or popularity. In practice, these are rarely the most important factors. What truly changes the experience is the lubricant's base and how the body reacts to it.
Water-based lubricants are often the most versatile. They are light, easy to clean, and compatible with almost all materials. They work well for daily use and most situations but tend to dry out faster.
Silicone lubricants create more glide and last much longer without reapplication. The texture is denser and less absorbed by the body. They make sense when seeking less friction and longer duration, but they are not always compatible with all silicone objects.
Oil-based lubricants work differently. They have a richer, slower feel on the skin but are not compatible with latex condoms and may not be suitable for frequent use or all bodies.
Texture also makes a difference. Some lubricants feel too liquid. Others are too thick or sticky. This varies much more from formula to formula than from brand to brand.
Simple ingredients often work better than formulas full of fragrances, warming effects, flavors, or extra stimuli. Especially in more sensitive areas.
In practice, the best lubricant is the one that works well with:
- your body
- the type of use
- the materials involved
- the level of comfort you are looking for
The brand comes after that.
